Gratitude 2012

I try to reflect frequently on my life and everything for which I am thankful. I loved spending time creating these collages and remembering experiences that have made 2012 an unforgettable year. It’s important for me to visualize where I have been in order to begin thinking about where I would like to go…

I am forever grateful for…

1. my unconditionally loving, humble, involved, handsome husband

2. my logical sister (not pictured: my brother-in-law and 2 amazing nephews, and my brother, sister-in-law and 2 beautiful nieces)

3. warm weather memories

4. Dekker’s 3 caring and hilarious older brothers

5. the most supportive, kind-hearted parents/grandparents

6. endless fun in grocery stores

7. first foods and messy meals

8. good friends & unforgettable days

9. music to provide motivation

10. real food and my health

11. my love for learning

12. chicago

13. having learned how to make truly healthy foods

14. the beautiful blend of yoga, the city and photography

15. nature’s true beauty

16. having had the experience of being in the ring and putting myself to physical and mental tests

17. my sweet, sleeping lil boston terrier (who is now 4 years old)

18. snow days with friends

19. the past

…and…

20. the future and all it holds for us…

What’s on your year-end gratitude collage?

Brittany Leigh Photography

Thank you to photographer Brittany Leigh for taking some great shots one Sunday morning along beautiful Lake Michigan. We played with some silouhettes as well as fitness shots along the beach and piers. It was a great time and I appreciate that she awoke pre-dawn to meet me downtown! She’s an amazing photographer and we have some fantastic things planned for future projects!

YOGA

You. Only. Live. Once. YOLO. {i would venture a guess to say some have heard this on the Kardashian’s show, but that’s not where i first heard it!}. I have always thrown caution to the wind and love trying new things. But not until I met my husband and had my son did I feel as though I really started to grow as a person, experience life, connect to my own energy, and set out to accomplish goals that have been waiting in the wings of my mind. I am cautious with my life, as I owe it to my son to be around as long as possible. However, I want to be the best person I can be, in the purest most wholistic form I can.

this was the picture on the flyer for the workshop tonight. not until i got home and hunted my teacher on facebook, did i realize it was her! told you she’s awesome… [i'm still blown away by this. i took the workshop because i saw this photo and wanted to learn this exact pose. i didn't know i would be learning from the best!]

I have toyed with yoga for a while, but hadn’t had the chance to really learn. {Youtube is helpful but its not the same!} I hadn’t been exposed to amazing teachers or the yogi lifestyle until recently. I envy those who have been practicing for years. But, there’s no time like the present. And “shoulda coulda woulda is too late.” So I delved into practice late December 2011 and have been in love ever since. I have a teacher for hot yoga, whom I absolutely 100% respect and adore. She’s taugh me more than she probably realizes and is a major reason I keep coming back. Even though my hellishly busy schedule only allows time for one or two classes per week, it is my time to be whole within myself. My time to challenge my mind, body and soul to be present, strong and active, yet relaxed. It allows me to toss aside any outside distractions and let go of what those around me think. It is my “me time.” It’s is my time off from outside life. Most of all, its important to me and something I truly enjoy without any reservation.

I attend workshops when possible and am working to learn some more advanced arm balances to add to my practice. I didn’t realize the wealth of information I would be present with tonight while experiencing a new teacher. Taught by Sarah Richelle Starnes, the workshop inspired me to push my own boundaries, both physically and mentally, and to let myself do what I know my body is capable of doing. I’ll continue on my personal path of exploration but I wanted to share a video and her website with SweatpantsandSuperfoods readers. This video does a wonderful job of showing not only a genuine love for yoga, but what the body and mind are capable of when one’s intrinsic passion drives such a lifeforce.

I encourage you, if you don’t have something already, to find something that truly motivates you. Put time and effort into something you genuinely love. Something for which you have infinite passion. Whatever it may be, practice it, nurture it, and enjoy it. Because, remember, You Only Live Once.

note: i went charging home tonight and showed my husband all i learned. im thankful i have found something that excites me so. my husband laughed and said “good babe.” he’s a patient man :)
