Chlorella and Spirulina
These two words are what started my Superfood obsession. I came across some research in an article and was intrigued by their endless health benefits. I read about their content, and was soon convinced they could greatly benefit my own health. They quickly became part of my daily regimen. Both are thought to contain every nutrient required by the human body, in almost perfect ratio. As a busy mom, they assist me in making sure I’m getting what I sometimes miss in my diet.
Chlorella and Spirulina are both forms of algae. Chlorella has a hard cell wall and is considered more of a plant than Spirulina. The cell wall has to be ‘broken’ in order to be digested and nutrionally benefitial. Spirulina is a one-celled organism, a blue-green algae that is thousands of years older than Chlorella. They are both nutrient rich and used around the world to treat illness and malnutrition. {I have read articles stating that they are both considered as sustainable food sources being used to end hunger}
one 'dose' of Superfoods…this is what I take 3 times each day to maintain optimal functioning
Chlorella and Spirulina can help promote and maintain healthy body functions and offer endless benefits… I have compiled a list of what I believe is most important, but I encourage you to do your own research and decide for yourself.
* each can help maintain alkalinity in the body {important for fighting off disease and infection}
* Spirulina is great source of B-12 and has enough protein in a couple tablespoons to qualify as a protein substitute {this is especially good for those who eat a vegan diet}
* both provide essential fatty acids {immune boosting, anti-inflamatory, regulating blood sugar}
* both are great for maintaining gut flora, and regulating bowels and proper digestion of foods
* Chlorella can be used to detoxify the body of mercury and other toxins {Spirulina cannot detox the body of heavy metals because it lacks a cell membrane}
* due to the detoxifying qualities of the Chlorella and the nutrients within, there is often a natural increase in energy as your body starts to rid itself of toxins and absorbs the nutrients it has been lacking
* because they are both whole Superfoods, there is not the possibility of “overdose” as there is with other supplements and medications
* it is best to start with small doses and increase slowly, as your body will begin releasing the toxins that have built up in your system
* this information is a compilation of resources and is not evaluated by the FDA *
